Building Your Heavenly Resume: Beyond Earthly Titles

Latoya Morez

We spend so much time pursuing earthly titles and positions - carefully crafting resumes, collecting degrees, climbing corporate ladders. But what if I told you there's a more significant position we should be working toward? What if our daily choices are actually building our heavenly resume?

Building your heavenly resume
What's on your heavenly resume?

Scripture tells us that heaven isn't just a destination - it's a kingdom with structure and purpose. In Matthew 25:21, Jesus speaks about faithful servants being put "in charge of many things." Daniel 7:27 describes how "sovereignty, power and greatness" will be handed over to the saints. These aren't just poetic metaphors; they're glimpses into our eternal purpose.

Think about it: If we're called to be kings and priests in God's kingdom (Revelation 1:6), shouldn't we be preparing for those positions now? Just like a medical student practices before becoming a doctor, our earthly walk is preparation for our eternal role.

Let's break this down practically:

  • 1. Character Development

    • How are you handling the small responsibilities God's given you now?

    • Are you developing qualities of leadership, wisdom, and servanthood?

    • Remember: Heaven isn't a retirement plan; it's a promotion.

  • 2. Kingdom Skills

    • What spiritual gifts are you cultivating?

    • How are you stewarding resources, relationships, and influence?

    • Are you learning to operate in spiritual authority?

  • 3. Heart Posture

    • Are you serving for recognition or out of love?

    • Do you understand both authority and submission?

    • Can you celebrate others' successes without envy?

Here's where it gets real: Every interaction is an opportunity for position training. That difficult coworker? They're helping develop your patience. That thankless volunteer position? It's cultivating humility. That financial challenge? It's teaching stewardship.

Jesus flipped the script on position and power. In Matthew 20:26-27, He said, "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave." The kingdom operates on an inverse economy - the way up is down.

Practical Application:

  1. Start viewing your daily challenges as position training

  2. Ask yourself: "How would someone in a heavenly position handle this?"

  3. Focus on character development over title acquisition

  4. Practice spiritual authority in your current sphere

Consider this: What if your current struggles are actually qualifying exams for your eternal position? What if that situation that's testing your patience is actually a training ground for ruling and reigning with Christ?

The truth is, we're all building our heavenly resume whether we realize it or not. Every choice, every response, every attitude is either qualifying or disqualifying us for greater responsibility in the kingdom.

Remember Paul's words in 2 Corinthians 4:17: "For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all." Your current challenges aren't just obstacles to overcome - they're opportunities to prove yourself faithful with greater responsibility.

So let me ask you:

  • What position are you really working toward?

  • How are your daily choices affecting your eternal resume?

  • Are you as invested in your heavenly position as you are in your earthly ones?

Today, let's shift our perspective. Let's see beyond the temporal titles and positions that consume our attention. Instead, let's focus on developing the character, wisdom, and faithfulness that will qualify us for eternal positions in God's kingdom.

Because at the end of the day, the question isn't just about getting into heaven - it's about being prepared for the position God has prepared for you there.
