When I tell you we were built different, I mean that with my whole chest. I'm talking about that deep-down, DNA-level, created-with-divine-purpose different.
Let me take you back to when I was pregnant with my first child. You mothers out there know that feeling - that mix of joy and straight-up fear and worry? There I was, looking down at my growing belly, wondering how in the world this little body was going to make his grand entrance into the world out from my little body. But then something hit me like that Damascus Road revelation - God didn't just randomly throw me into this situation. He architected my whole being for this very purpose, like the women before and after myself.
Genesis 1:27 tells us "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." Then right after, in verse 28, He blessed them and said "Be fruitful and multiply." See what I'm saying? Before the foundation of the world, the Master Designer had already mapped out every detail of our existence.
But here's where it gets even deeper. This truth about being built for motherhood? It's actually a metaphor for our whole spiritual walk. Paul drops this gem in Ephesians 2:10: "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Y'all catch that? We're His workmanship - His masterpiece!
Now, I know what some of y'all thinking: "But LaToya, this walk is HARD though." And you right! But let’s look at this - 1 Corinthians 10:13 promises that "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability." Translation: If He brought you to it, He built you to handle it.
Let me break it down practically:
When that anxiety trying to creep in about your purpose? Remember Jeremiah 1:5 - "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you."
When that imposter syndrome hitting different and you’re using too many filters, meditate on Psalm 139:14 - "I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
When the enemy trying to convince you you're not qualified? Remind him of 2 Corinthians 3:5 - "Our competence comes from God."
But here's the real question we need to be asking ourselves: If we're built for this, why we still struggling? Well, beloved, that's where Philippians 2:12-13 comes in - "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure."
The struggle isn’t evidence that you weren't built for this - it's confirmation that you're under construction. Every contraction in childbirth has a purpose. Every trial in your walk is shaping you. Every obstacle is an opportunity for God to prove His power in your weakness.
And speaking of power, let's dive deeper into what Yeshua meant when He said we'd do greater works (John 14:12). This wasn't just a casual statement - it was a profound promise that would be fulfilled through the Holy Spirit. The same Spirit that empowered Yeshua's earthly ministry wasn't meant to depart with Him but was destined to be poured out on all believers.
Think about this: The Holy Spirit that descended on Christ at His baptism - that same power that enabled Him to heal the sick, cast out demons, and even raise the dead - now dwells in you! Romans 8:11 confirms this amazing truth: "The Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you." This indwelling presence isn't just for show; it's for transformation and empowerment.
The Holy Spirit serves multiple roles in our lives:
As our Guide - Leading us into all truth (John 16:13)
As our Strengthener - Empowering us to resist temptation and overcome trials
As our Intercessor - Praying through us when we don't have the words (Romans 8:26)
As our Teacher - Revealing the deep things of YHWH (1 Corinthians 2:10)
Through this divine empowerment, we're not just called to admire Christ's example - we're equipped to follow it. The Holy Spirit enables us to manifest the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and exercise spiritual gifts for the building up of the body of believers. This is how we do these "greater works" - not by our own strength, but through His Spirit working mightily within us.
So here's your homework:
Start journaling your "built different" moments - those times when God's strength was perfect in your weakness
Create a "Divine Design" playlist - scriptures that remind you of who God created you to be
Find your "construction crew" - believers who can remind you of your blueprint when you forget
Remember, beloved - you're not just built different, you're built divine. And that's not just a cute saying - that's your spiritual DNA. Now walk like it.
